Free Ride: From the Desk of Mike Donnelly

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Are you making your invoices work for you?[/caption]   Free ride … Every time you send a customer a bill or invoice, there's a great opportunity to say a lot more.  Paying First-Class postage of $0.46 to mail a customer an invoice or statement is a common “expense” of doing business these days.  These are your customers … you’ve provided a service or product to them … you want to get paid.  Makes sense.  But mailing an invoice or statement can be an opportunity to communicate to your customers in a way that maybe you haven’t thought of before. In a first class mailing, you can add additional pieces (besides your invoice or statement) that can weigh up to one ounce – and still mail for the same rate.  All for the same price.  Think about ways that you can communicate with your customers and take advantage of the free ride!
  • Cross -sell or up-sell products
  • Tell your customers about upcoming events, specials, great deals
  • Communicate the great things that you are doing as a company
  • Provide a coupon or $ off on their next order
  • Tell them about new products and service offerings and how to use your products/services more effectively
  • Tell them about community-based activities that you are involved in
  • Direct them to your website
  • AND TELL THEM THAT YOU APPRECIATE THEIR BUSINESS!
We would love to brainstorm ideas with you on how to more effectively communicate with your customers. Let’s think about adding printed inserts that tell your story.  How about we develop a series of inserts that are tied to your product and services offerings.  Let’s think about adding graphics to your mailing envelopes or messages that direct the recipient to promotional inserts inside your mailing.  By sending additional communications with customer bills you can:
  • Use the full capacity of your postal cost band
  • Turn a fixed postal cost into a potential revenue generator
  • Reach your customers directly with relevant messages
  • Give your customers a positive extra with their bill - promotions, discounts, information
  • Get tangible results and bring your customers back for more
Every time you send a customer a bill or invoice, there's a great opportunity to say a lot more.
